Two limits in the free trial.
They answer different questions: how much you can use, and which part of a manuscript you can draft.
- 2,000 trial words, once
- Your account starts with a one-time allowance. It expires after 30 days and does not renew monthly.
- Opening ~1,000 source words per manuscript
- The free preview stops at a paragraph boundary, so its length can vary. Drafting or redrafting those passages uses your remaining word balance.
- The full workflow needs a paid plan
- Starter and Pro unlock drafting beyond the preview, AI checks, revision tools and manuscript export. Having unused trial words or buying a pack alone does not unlock these features.
Extra words, when you need them.
Word packs are one-time purchases. Their unused words do not expire and are used after expiring credits. They add capacity to the access you already have.
A word pack is not a subscription or a feature upgrade. Choose a paid plan to work beyond the free preview.

What counts toward your balance?
Drafting, redrafting and AI revisions use the source-word count of the passages processed. Reworking the same passage can use words again. AI verification does not deduct additional word credits, but requires paid access.
Check the estimate before starting a run. An allowance is processing capacity, so a 50,000-word manuscript may need more than 50,000 credits if you generate several drafts.
What happens when I cancel?
Cancel a monthly plan from Usage & Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Monthly subscription credits expire with that period; any unused word-pack credits keep their own non-expiring balance. Canceling does not start a new free trial.
